U9 and U11 Program

 

Season Information:

  • Development Sessions: beginning of September
  • Season start: beginning of October
  • Season end: end of March
  • Holiday Break: no sessions between December 25 - January 2
  • Age Groups:
    • U9 - Players under the age of 9 as of December 31 of this year.
    • U11 - Players under the age of 11 as of December 31 of this year.

Pre-Season Development Sessions - U9/U11 Players

In accordance with Hockey Canada’s Development Pathways and depending on numbers/Rep team, our U9 and U11 seasons will begin with 4 development sessions for all players for each division. These sessions are included in both House League and Competitive fees, and all players will participate together prior to Competitive tryouts (held later in September).

Competitive Tryouts: 

Competitive teams will be created for our U11 program only. Tryouts for teams is done at an additional costs. More information about tryouts can be found at wngha.ca/tryouts

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are House League games played?
Our House League teams typically play games against each other however, we endeavor to schedule games against other local centres. This includes but is not limited to: Oshawa, Clarington, Peterborough, Lindsay, Ennismore, and Belleville. Locally, games are scheduled out of the Cobourg Community Centre and Baltimore Recreation Complex.

When are House League games and practices?
The season starts with practices and development skates before the league game schedule begins. Once the regular schedule settles in, teams typically have two ice times per week - one practice and one game. Practice and home game times generally occur at the same time each week; however, game times can vary when playing against other Centres.

When will the full season schedule be released?
House League pre-season development activities will begin in September, as detailed above with regular season team games/practices starting in October. We expect to have a full season schedule available in October.

How long is the season? When is Championship weekend?
The House League season runs from October-March. Championship weekend is scheduled for the last weekend of March.

Are we able to enter tournaments?
U9:

In accordance with Hockey Canada’s Development Pathways, U9 teams are permitted to play up to 2 half-ice jamborees prior to January, and 1 full-ice tournament from January onward.

WNGHA intends to run a U9 division at our Annual Halloween Havoc tournament, which occurs at the end of October.

U11:

House League teams may play a maximum of 5 tournaments per season in accordance with WNGHA policies, which includes participation in our annual Halloween Havoc tournament. Each team determines their own tournament schedule, which is set by the head coach after discussion with parents and players.

Are tournament registration fees covered by WNGHA?
Tournament registration fees are not included in season registration fees. Any fees or other costs associated with entering tournaments (including hotel accommodations) are the responsibility of the individual team.
