It has been brought to the attention of the WNGHA executive that there has been an error in following the proper process for coach selection as outlined in WNGHA’s Policy Manual as it relates to the timeline for the call for coach applications and the process for overall application submissions.
Therefore, in order to ensure compliance to our policies the Executive has made the decision to rescind the initial offer for the position of Head Coach of the U13 Tier 1 Team for the 2024-2025 season. Effective immediately, the U13 Tier 1 coaching position will be awarded to Adele Appleman and updates will be made on the WNGHA website to reflect this change.
This was a difficult decision and in no way reflects the coaching abilities or competencies of any coaching candidates.
All executive and coach selection committee members who had a direct conflict of interest (i.e. has a child who may be playing in the age category of the division in question) were removed from all decisions throughout the initial selection process and any additional motions/votes.
In order to mitigate future compliance issues, the WNGHA Executive is committed to the following and will present changes and updates to our members at our 2024 Annual General Meeting:
- A full review of our coaching selection policy including:
- A comprehensive review of how interviews are conducted, the questions asked, and how candidates are scored during these interviews;
- A review of how candidates are contacted regarding the outcome of coach selections
- A review of end of season evaluations
- Additional updates to the WNGHA Policy Manual as required.
