Meet the Coaches: Tyler Gubler
Tyler Gubler is relatively a young coach who started in the hockey business at a young age.  He is currently the next head coach for the West Northumberland Midget AA team for the 2019/2020 season, who has over a decade of coaching experience.

Tyler started his dream of playing hockey later in life, but wasted no time chasing his dream and moved through minor hockey at a quick pace.   He was drafted in 2000 in the 5th round to the Mississauga Ice Dogs, where he spent the better part of 2 seasons being coached by the legend Don Cherry himself and Steve Ludzik.  After missing his NHL draft year due to injuries, he decided to shift gears and go to school where he majored in Health Science and Kinesiology.

While attending UOIT (now Ontario Tech), Tyler played 2 years of CIS hockey and was part of the first ever men’s hockey team that was formed at the school.

During his school years, Tyler worked for many years as the head instructor at the private hockey facility formerly known as Puck Hogs in Pickering, and has worked for the likes of Edge Hockey Academy, Scary Skate, Northwestern Hockey Sports Camp (Winnipeg).

Tyler’s main focus is power skating as he has taught it professionally for over 18 years, and focusing on skill correction.

In 2010/2011 Tyler was the assistant coach of the Bantam AAA Oshawa Minor Generals where they had a very successful year.  Following that season Tyler took some time off from coaching when is first son was born, and focused strictly on working with numerous teams, training them in various areas of detail and was sought out by many different organizations.

After Tyler’s second son was born back in 2016, Tyler once again decided he wanted to step back behind the bench, and was awarded the head coaching positon of the Oshawa Lady Generals Bantam A team for the 2017 season.  Following that season and a career change Tyler again took the assistant coaching job with the Oshawa Lady Generals Minor Midget A team.

In Tyler’s spare time you will find him going on hikes or swimming with his family or taking the occasional road trip.  He resides in Oshawa with his wife Nicole, two boys Kane age 8, Roman age 3, and his 2 dogs Dexter, and Annie.

Coaching Philosophy:

IF you show up to play, YOU PLAY,

IF you show up not ready to play, YOU DON’T.

This is the highest level of REP hockey for female hockey players, it’s time to be treated like women, and be able to take constructive criticism and get the job done.
